Day trips

Our villas are all situated in an ideal position to visit this wonderful corner of Tuscany.

They are just a few kilometers from the most beautiful villages such as Pienza, Montepulciano and Montalcino and hidden jewels such as Bagno Vignoni or San Giovanni d’Asso. You can be sure to find some good tips for your unique experience in Tuscany.

San Giovanni d'Asso

San Giovanni d’Asso is a small town that perched between the Crete Senesi and the Val d’Orcia and has a beautiful centre around the medieval castle.

San Giovanni d’Asso is a great destination for gourmets.
This is the home of the white truffle of the Crete Senesi, a valuable product widely used in the local cuisine. Every year, in Autumn, an important gastronomic festival is held here, the White Truffle Market Exhibition of the Crete Senesi.

Live the emotion of the experience of truffle hunting with the truffle hunter and his dogs. San Giovanni d’Asso is also the “city of oil” and the “city of Orcia DOC wines”. This area is in fact in the middle of two of the most famous denominations of Tuscany: Montalcino and Montepulciano.

Pienza

Pienza is a truly magical place to visit. A beautifully preserved Renaissance pearl for its extraordinary architecture and incomparable setting. The centre of Pienza was completely redesigned by Pope Pius II during the Renaissance and was designed to become the “Ideal City”.

Since then, little has changed: the cathedral, designed by Rossellino, reveals in its crypt splendid Sienese altarpieces and tapestries of the sixteenth century. The Papal Palace, the Piccolomini Palace, occupied by the descendants of the Pope until 1968, is now open to the public. The roof garden of the building offers a spectacular view of the valley.
Do not miss the excellent cheese produced here: Pecorino di Pienza.

Bagno Vignoni

Undeniably Bagno Vignoni is one of the most evocative places in all of the Val d’Orcia. Located along the Via Francigena, it is a spa known since Roman times: Kings and Popes have stopped here to enjoy the benefits of its precious thermal waters. The village of Bagno Vignoni has remained unchanged over time and arriving in the central square is like plunging into the past. The tiny village was built around the large thermal pool in the main square: a village unique in the world, ideal for a romantic dinner.

Also worth visiting is the Mill Park, with the ancient ruins of the mills used to grind the wheat cultivated in the valley in the Middle Ages. Plan a half day to immerse yourself in the spa and pamper yourself with the many luxurious spa treatments.

Montalcino

Montalcino is the home of Brunello, one of the great Tuscan wines appreciated throughout the world. It is located towards the south of Siena, on a hill at the border of Val d’Orcia. Walking through the alleys of this beautiful medieval village, you can enjoy the extraordinary view of the valley while slowly sipping a good glass of red wine.
Not to be missed is a visit to the fortress, which has remained intact since the 16th century, from here you can enjoy a breathtaking panorama.

Every year the Fortezza hosts a number of large events ranging from concerts to tastings and includes the keenly awaited Jazz and Wine series of outdoor concerts.
Wander through the lovely historic centre starting from Piazza del Popolo, the main square of the village, resplendent with the distinctive long and narrow tower of the Palazzo del Priore and the beautiful gothic loggia. If you are in Montalcino you should also visit the Abbey of Sant’Antimo, only a few kilometres away.

Montepulciano

Montepulciano is located on a hill overlooking the Tuscan countryside between Val d’Orcia and Valdichiana and is famous for its excellent wine: the Vino Nobile di Montepulciano. A town rich in precious works created by famous Renaissance artists, charming squares and churches, architectural jewels preserved over the centuries.

The heart of the city is the beautiful Piazza Grande, with the Duomo, the Town Hall, the spectacular Griffin and Lion Well and splendid Renaissance palaces. Because of its timeless beauty it has been chosen as a film set time and time again by the greats of international cinema. Montepulciano is a city with many historical cellars and wine bars where you can enjoy a pleasant tasting. Along the beautiful streets of the village you will also find many shops and some traditional artisanal workshops.
